CLO:
I will be able to create a vector image in .PDF or JPEG file by experimenting and choosing correct trace, expand, shape, pen, gradient & fill tools tools of Illustrator to add color. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? I will be able to add color using trace, expand, shape, gradient & fill tools tools of Illustrator. HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating a colored vector image using the design cycle to brainstorm, trace, color and talk about their tool & color decisions with peers. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Unlike JPEGs, GIFs, and BMP images, vector graphics are not made up of a grid of pixels. Instead, vector graphics are comprised of paths, which are defined by a start and end point, along with other points, curves, and angles along the way. A path can be a line, a square, a triangle, or a curvy shape. These paths can be used to create simple drawings or complex diagrams and blown up to any size. Because vector-based images are not made up of a specific number of dots, they can be scaled to a larger size and not lose any image quality. If you blow up a raster graphic, it will look blocky, or "pixelated." When you blow up a vector graphic, the edges of each object within the graphic stay smooth and clean. This makes vector graphics ideal for logos, which can be small enough to appear on a business card, but can also be scaled to fill a billboard. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11 Medium: Adobe Illustrator CS6 Image trace size: Must be 1000x1000 DPI or More & back/white image to trace. NO GRAY TONES or light lines will trace. Only high resolution images will trace or drawings outlined in Sharpie. VOCABULARY: Show me how to use: black arrow, white arrow, ungroup, trace, expand, shape, pen, gradient, swatches, color picker, stroke & fill tools tools. Difference between vector & raster images. Difference between Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator Positive & Negative shapes (inside & outside trace lines) Start by watching video to learn how to convert and image to VECTOR using Photoshop.

Students will support the design cycle (brainstorming, planning, creating, reflecting) by writing, listening and speaking with peers, by reading/referencing tutorials on their own and by selecting the appropriate Photoshop tools needed to create a GIF. They will be able to justify why they used those tools and how to animate their ideas.

What is the purpose of a GIF?
And these days, you’ll often find that gifs can become memes – but don’t get confused. Memes are very different. Meme is basically a funny picture or video given a new context, usually around a relatable truth, which travel in a viral way through the culture of the Internet. Undoubtedly memes have become one of the go-to methods of transmitting simple ideas and emotional truths in recent times. Like a virus, a meme moves from host to host, mutating along the way.
