CTE Digital Design / Digital Media Production I
Students explore a variety of media providing a foundation in the elements and principles of art with an emphasis on computer graphics (Photoshop/Illustrator). This course may also include: photography, typography, lettering, silk screening, vinyl applications, logo design, computer and commercial art. The rules of composition, graphic design history, pop culture, and various artists will be studied. This will provide vocabulary skills and a foundation for students to discuss and evaluate their own work in a supportive atmosphere. Students will gain work experience by collaborating with real clients to develop design ideas. This course is a suggested prerequisite for the AP programs and is required for CTE pathway in Digital Design Arts.

Students will explore visual literacy and critical thinking. They will be challenged in areas of creativity, technology, and communication as well as expanding your knowledge and understanding of expressive features and characteristics of art/design. Through process, work projects, and activities, you will tap into individual interests, perspectives and experiences to create original, expressive works of art/design as well as be able to communicate an idea to a specific audience.
Students will be introduced to the basic skills of shooting with correct manual operation of a digital SLR as well as introductory editing techniques with Adobe Photoshop. We cover techniques of interest to most any advancing photographer, whether their primary interest is art photography or publication work. Class materials focus on creative vision, composition, equipment and techniques that students practice in the field. This course is a suggested prerequisite for the AP programs and is required for CTE pathway in Digital Design Arts. Highly motivated students will be provided with an environment that fosters artistic growth, work ethic and focus. AP Studio Art - 2D/3D Portfolio
This course operates at a college level of study. It encourages and expects both the creative and systematic study of conceptual and formal issues relating to 2D design & photography. Highly motivated students will be provided with an environment that fosters artistic growth, work ethic and focus. Students are expected to strive towards mastery and develop a true understanding of the artistic creation as an ongoing process. The principles of design will be explored through assignments that may include: painting, printmaking, silk screening digital imaging, calligraphy/typography, graphic design, logo design and commercial art. Students will study art history, culture, and artists, with an emphasis in academic vocabulary including the elements and principles of design.
A significant commitment of time is necessary to achieve excellence in both preliminary and final artworks. Students will be challenged to think both critically and conceptually, and make informed decisions based on learned techniques, as well as natural instinct. Students will perform at an intense level of production, working both inside and out of class studio, to achieve high calibre portfolios for examination/submission. Portfolio development is required. AP Portfolio deadlines are in May.
