THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN CREATING YOUR LOGO
COLOR MEANINGS
A visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data. CLO: Students will be able to use a flat graphic to illustrate particular data using Adobe Illustrator tools. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? I will be able to draw using Adobe Illustrator's shape, pen & pathfinder tools. I will be able to organize data into an infographic. HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating a graphic that is easy to read an full of visuals as well as valuable information. The infographic should include a list, comparison, flowchart, data, map, visual article, timeline, menu, recipe or steps to do something. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Today everything is on social media, most effective use of getting information out to people is through the use of visuals such as a flat graphic or ingraphic. It takes less time to read, it's quick, and people can remember the images easily. It is also easy to share on social media. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11, 11x17 or equivalent. Medium: Adobe Illustrator CS6 VOCABULARY: Show me how to use: pen, shape tool, stroke & fill tools. Text, fonts, color should be a focus based on target audience. Put your name on a piece of paper. Number and write answer.
RULES TO A GOOD Infographic
FINAL DUE: DEC 19TH END OF CLASSLook at artwork closely. Don't miss the details. How was it made? Can you recreate it using the tools of Adobe Illustrator; pathfinder, pen, fill, shape, stroke, anchor point tool etc. You should be able to if you did your tutorials. It is due at the end of class on Dec 19th. Good luck! Recreate the picture below using any and all the tools you know. It should look as close as possible to the original. Look for repeating shapes, simple shapes turned into new ones, shapes overlapping etc. REQUIEMENTS:
Final "A"FINAL "B"CLO: Students will participate in the creative process (researching) by using the appropriate technology, listening, reading or referencing tutorials to explore Adobe Illustrator's shape, pen & pathfinder tools. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? I will be able to draw using Adobe Illustrator's shape, pen & pathfinder tools. HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating a colored vector image using tutorials as reference. And then talk about their tool & color decisions with peers. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Unlike JPEGs, GIFs, and BMP images, vector graphics are not made up of a grid of pixels. Instead, vector graphics are comprised of paths, which are defined by a start and end point, along with other points, curves, and angles along the way. A path can be a line, a square, a triangle, or a curvy shape. These paths can be used to create simple drawings or complex diagrams and blown up to any size. The pathfinder tool allows you to divide shapes apart and weld them together. The pen tool allows you to manipulate a point or draw a shape. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11 Medium: Adobe Illustrator CS6 VOCABULARY: Show me how to use: pen, shape tool, stroke & fill tools. Difference between vector & raster images. Pathfinder tool: weld, divide Align tools, gradient, pencil tool, anchor points, custom brushes Shortcuts: copy, cut, paste, etc
CLO: I will be able to create a vector image in .PDF or JPEG file by experimenting and choosing correct trace, expand, shape, pen, gradient & fill tools tools of Illustrator to add color. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? I will be able to add color using trace, expand, shape, gradient & fill tools tools of Illustrator. HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating a colored vector image using the design cycle to brainstorm, trace, color and talk about their tool & color decisions with peers. Because vector-based images are not made up of a specific number of dots, they can be scaled to a larger size and not lose any image quality. If you blow up a raster graphic, it will look blocky, or "pixelated." When you blow up a vector graphic, the edges of each object within the graphic stay smooth and clean. This makes vector graphics ideal for logos, which can be small enough to appear on a business card, but can also be scaled to fill a billboard. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11 Medium: Adobe Illustrator CS6 Image trace size: Must be 800x800 DPI or More & back and white image to trace. NO GRAY TONES VOCABULARY: Show me how to use: trace, expand, shape, gradient, stroke & fill tools tools. Difference between vector & raster images Start by watching video to learn how to convert and image to VECTOR. CLO: Students will participate in the creative process (researching) by using the appropriate technology, listening, reading or referencing tutorials to explore Adobe Illustrator's shape, pen & pathfinder tools.
Adobe Illustrator is a vector drawing program. It is often used to draw illustrations, cartoons, diagrams, charts and logos. Unlike bitmap images that stores information in a grid of dots, Illustrator uses mathematical equations to draw out the shapes. This makes vector graphics scalable without the loss of resolution. Advantages of Vector Graphics
Disadvantages of vector graphics
The key components (VOCABULARY) we will be covering are the following:
CLO: I will show I have learned the basic tools of Illustrator by creating an artwork using positive/negative space, and simple box shapes. (Black Box Project) I will use the design cycle to brainstorm, sketch, create and revise their ideas, and will justify my decisions with peers. I will be able to recognize and apply Contrast, Repetition, Alignment & Proximity (C.R.A.P) to my artwork Use your sketches from earlier. Use Illustrator CS6 (especially the pathfinder tool) to recreate your best examples of the words in a 11x17 document. We should be able to see that you used C.R.A.P. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING: I will be able to recognize design principles and apply Contrast, Repetition, Alignment & Proximity (C.R.A.P). HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating an artwork using the positive/negative space, and simple shapes and rules above. (Black Box Project) Students will use the design cycle to brainstorm, sketch, create and revise their ideas, and will talk about their decisions with peers. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Artist follow a simple set of rules. In order for people to understand and communicate their ideas these rules need to be considered. Visual Hierarchy helps viewers see what they see first. Without it images may not communicate the ideas we want them to. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11, 150 Resolution Medium: Adobe Illustrator CS6 VOCABULARYBLACK SQUARE PROJECTUse four black squares to create sketches that express the meaning of the six words below:
You will make at least 8 sketches for each word. Select the most effective solution for each one. When the assignment is complete, you should have a total of 48 sketches and a written reflection. Remember, it’s usually not our first idea that is the most successful. Don’t always look for the obvious solution to the problem. You will find that for some of these words many of you will come up with outcomes that are very similar to your classmates, but here’s an important fact to keep in mind: The potential number of successful solutions are infinite! |
