Portrait effects are no longer constrained to vignettes or simple stencil effects. This area has vertiginously evolved to an unbelievable level of creativity and complexity. So, don’t expect to find your average two step special effect. Many of these require a lot of work, which in the end will result in a lot of Photoshop techniques learned. As usual, don’t try this with your average bad quality family photos. These effects require good quality high resolution images to obtain optimum results. DUE: DEC 7THIf you cannot finish by this date, Please turn in what you have. I will take partially done for this one. we can finish after break. Start your final by Dec 11th!!! CLO: Students will participate in the creative process (researching) by using the appropriate technology, listening, reading or referencing tutorials to convert a photograph from Photoshop into a vector image in Illustrator using Adobe Illustrator's Live paint tool, pen tool, eyedropper and paint bucket. This is similar to your poly project except you have to close a path by connecting anchor points and trace each shape you see, including shadows. (instead of making triangles) remember there are no lines only closed in shapes. If you can't color the anchor points are not connected. Lock your photo to a lower layer. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? I will be able to create a cartoon portrait of myself, from my own photograph using Illustrator live paint & pen tools. HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating a colored vector image from my own photo, using the design cycle to brainstorm, draw, color and talk about their tools & color decisions with peers. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? It helps to be able to take our own pictures in photoshop and know how to convert them from RASTER to VECTOR. This allows us to have student voice and original artwork, not copied. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11 Medium: Adobe Illustrator CS6 & Adobe Photoshop CS6 Photo: Taken by yourself or a friend with the NIKON SLR CAMERA VOCABULARY: Show me how to use: Nikon Camera, upload photo, save high contrast photo in Photoshop, Illustrator tools: Live paint, pen, eyedropper, expand and paint bucket. CLO: I will be able to create a vector image in .PDF or JPEG file by experimenting and choosing correct trace, expand, shape, pen, gradient & fill tools tools of Illustrator to add color. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? I will be able to add color using trace, expand, shape, gradient & fill tools tools of Illustrator. HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating a colored vector image using the design cycle to brainstorm, trace, color and talk about their tool & color decisions with peers WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Unlike JPEGs, GIFs, and BMP images, vector graphics are not made up of a grid of pixels. Instead, vector graphics are comprised of paths, which are defined by a start and end point, along with other points, curves, and angles along the way. A path can be a line, a square, a triangle, or a curvy shape. These paths can be used to create simple drawings or complex diagrams and blown up to any size. Because vector-based images are not made up of a specific number of dots, they can be scaled to a larger size and not lose any image quality. If you blow up a raster graphic, it will look blocky, or "pixelated." When you blow up a vector graphic, the edges of each object within the graphic stay smooth and clean. This makes vector graphics ideal for logos, which can be small enough to appear on a business card, but can also be scaled to fill a billboard. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11 Medium: Adobe Illustrator CS6 Image trace size: Must be 800x800 DPI or More & back and white image to trace. NO GRAY TONES VOCABULARY: Show me how to use: trace, expand, shape, gradient, stroke & fill tools tools. Difference between vector & raster images Start by watching video to learn how to convert and image to VECTOR. CLO: Students will participate in the creative process (researching) by using the appropriate technology, listening, reading or referencing tutorials to explore Adobe Illustrator's shape, pen & pathfinder tools.
Adobe Illustrator is a vector drawing program. It is often used to draw illustrations, cartoons, diagrams, charts and logos. Unlike bitmap images that stores information in a grid of dots, Illustrator uses mathematical equations to draw out the shapes. This makes vector graphics scalable without the loss of resolution. Examples done in IllustratorAlthough GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format there has been some controversy over the correct pronunciation of the word GIF. Is it GIF as in ‘gift’ or GIF as in ‘jif’? Basically, it is a file format just like .jpg or .png and is most commonly used to display short moving images. Either way it is essentially a digital flipbook of images cycling through a stack of images on a loop. They have become a communication tool in the same way emoji have been added to language over recent years. CLO: Students will use the design cycle by researching, brainstorming, creating ideas for a .GIF using still images, frames & layers in photoshop. WHAT ARE YOU LEARNING? I will be able to use Photoshop frames & layers to create a short video loop from still images. HOW WILL I KNOW YOU GET IT? By creating an GIF using images converted into frames/layers in photoshop and set on a loop. Students will use the design cycle to brainstorm, sketch, create and revise their ideas, and will talk about their decisions with peers. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? There is a growing tendency of internet users to use a GIF to convey a message. If a picture is worth a thousand words, surely a short video is worth a million? GIF culture ties into popular culture. Animated GIFs are used to convey complex emotions in an online world of abbreviations (LOL, LMAO, ROFL). They’re also a way of demonstrating an understanding of popular culture, with a huge number being clips from TV shows. Once considered juvenile and unprofessional, GIFs are now a fully accepted, often essential tool of social media and social media marketing. Furthermore, they are immediately eye-catching and easily shareable across multiple social networks. Whether you are already a seasoned designer or simply search for your GIFs from search engines, animated GIFs can add value to your brand and show off your personality. REQUIREMENTS: Size: 8.5x11, 150 Resolution Medium: Adobe Photoshop CS6 Length: At least 6-10 frames or more. Set on a loop. VOCABULARY: Show me how to use: Timeline window, Frame, Layers, loop, lasso tool, (copy cut paste) duplicate layers, background, foreground
